We believe all people deserve a place to call home, a safe place to rebuild their lives after tragedy. A HopeStead community serves as such. A locale where a person transitioning out of homelessness can focus on rediscovering purpose and rebuilding their lives from the ground up with necessary resources on-site and the aid of a supportive community. Ultimately, the goal of HopeStead communities is to help end the cycle of homelessness, one person at a time. Every person’s situation is different. As a result, there are no “one size fits all” solutions. HopeStead communities will provide on-site assistance from trained professionals to identify individualized pathways to lead residents out of the cycle of homelessness long-term. Available on-site services will include mental health, substance abuse and employment support. “IN PURPOSE THERE IS HOPE.” With on-site jobs ranging from landscaping, gardening, auto mechanics, even the building of a HopeStead... this community is designed to intentionally build in opportunities that give purpose and meaning to everyday life as individuals are in their rebuilding phase. Whether through our on-site employment opportunities or through connections with community partners, HopeStead communities will help residents currently without jobs successfully re-enter the workforce. This is a dream that we are working to turn into a reality. Just like our efforts in building and seeing the Hope Tank in action, this endeavor is a community effort. This summer we launched a fundraising initiative to assist black led non-profit organizations in Charlotte, NC. We wanted to funnel the energy sparked by the civil unrest of innocent unarmed black people being killed at the hands of police, into actual dollars that could be used to further these organizations' missions. With the help of First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, we were able to donate $1,000 to Hope Vibes. We got a chance to sit down with the founders, Emmanuel and Adrienne Threatt to get an inside look at how they came to be and their mission to eradicate homelessness. We hope this interview can amplify Hope Vibes' story as they continue to be change agents in our community. During times like this creativity can be at its highest. We were unable to find any portable foot pump sinks online, for our homeless neighbors, so we made our own. These are little better. They are solar powered, self pumping, fully portable and touchless. Which means they can go anywhere our homeless neighbors live. Shout out to everyone who made the first sink possible. So often government agencies and well meaning local community groups make plans and preparations in moments of crisis.... and well in general.... without first talking to the people they serve to hear their take on things and what they perceive their high priority needs to be. So on Thursday, some of our team went to spend time with some of our homeless neighbors to hear directly from them... just to see how they indiviually are doing and how #COVID19 #Coronavirus is affecting them. This first interview is with our friend Anthony. Some of the things he shared, we anticipated.... but other things he shared came as a saddening surprise. We are told that the Men's Shelter is open but at a limited capacity. They are accepting some guests, just not as many as usual in attempt to provide social distancing.
